Shiatsu is a form of natural healing which originated within the oldest healing methods known to humanity, Traditional Chinese Medicine and the historical massage techniques of Japan.
Like acupuncture, Shiatsu can affect the movement of energy or “Vital Force” circulating through well defined passageways called meridians.
For a variety of reasons energy flow may become impaired producing symptoms of pain, dysfunction or general loss of well-being.
How does Shiatsu work?
Using one’s hands a Shiatsu practitioner applies various degrees of pressure along the meridians with a combination of techniques including, pressing, stretching, holding and rotating.
Freeing blockages balances the body’s energy as it flows to the organs, glands, muscles, nerves and blood.
When the quality of energy changes, the symptoms associated with the lack of flow will gradually improve.
The Medium of Touch
Through the medium of touch the experienced Shiatsu practitioner can activate innate self-healing mechanisms within the receiver, producing a heightened sense of well-being in body, mind and spirit.
