    Course Description

    Intended as an introduction to the 200 hour certificate program,        
    this 16 hour course discusses the history and provides an overview        
    of Shiatsu theory and principles, including acupoints for the 12     
    regular meridians, aetiology of disease, TCM diagnosis, and       
    treatment protocols for headache.


    Learning Objectives and Course Outcomes

    The course outcomes will be met through the following learning
    objectives:


    1. Summarize Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and principles.
           - Discuss the history of Traditional Chinese Medicine

    2. Become familiar with acupuncture points
           - Describe acupuncture points and point locations
           - Overview of point groupings

    3. Overview aetiology and pathogenesis from a Traditional Chinese
    Medicine Perspective                        

    4. Discuss basic shiatsu massage theory.
           - Describe basic principles and rationale

    5. Apply basic shiatsu massage techniques.
           - apply principles of shiatsu massage
           - Describe basic shiatsu manipulations

    6. Perform a regional shiatsu massage sequence under the direction       
    of the Instructor
           - Follow a regional sequence
           - Apply a basic treatment protocol for headache as directed by the
           instructor
